Itinerary Moon Stone Trek

Day 1Cusco – Killarumiyoc – Chillipahua.

After your breakfast, our private van will pick up you from your hotel to drive until the Killarumiyuc Inca site (moon temple). This temple is an excellent example of Inca architecture and ceremonies dedicated to the feminine. From here we continue driving passing by the Huarocando village for 40 minutes to the trailhead of the Moonstone trek, where we will meet the trek team.

The first section of the trail is by the shore of the local river Huaracondo, along the trail, will see landscapes of valleys, mountains, and archaeological sites until to arrive at Wata city (3750m), a pre-Incan fortress in a top of a hill. From here is a 2 hours hike to Chillipahua Village, where is located our base camp for the first night, if we arrive one-hour earlier we are going to visit some local families to know their daily lives.

Day 2Chillipawa – Chancachuco.

After a nutritive breakfast, begins our hike through the fields and Chachacomo trees. Along this area will see pastures farms in steep hills, also will pass by several indigenous Quechua speakers villages who also still practice the ancient religion, music, and agricultural techniques. Lunch will be served along the way to the summit.

Once we finish our lunch and short rest our hike continues up to Accoccasa pass (4625m), from where we will have magic views of snow peaks. Since here we are going to descend until to reach our base camp in the Chancachuco Valley (4350m) that are located on the opposite side of Huaynay glaciers. At the base camp, we are going to visit some local families and then enjoy the amazing views of the Andean Milky Way during the night.

Day 3Chancachuco – Cachicata.

After waking you up with hot tea and breakfast, we start with a slow descent into the valley, on the trail, we will appreciate an ancient aqueduct which was used to transport water. Continuing we are going to make a stop at the Inca site of Punku Punku (3535m, Wind Door), or commonly known as the Andes gateway. From here we will see the Veronica peak (5682m).

Our next surprise is Intiwatana (sundial), the highest and more important point in the area, this was an astronomical observatory for an agricultural calendar, also well have views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our hike continues until the Incan village of Cachiccata (3525m), this village was the resident of hundreds of architects and other laborers of the empire, also will explore the village little by little.

Day 4Cachicata – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes.

Today is another beautiful, we encourage you to wake you up early to enjoy the sunrise over Veronica peak and the Sacred Valley for an unforgettable experience in the Andes.

After breakfast, we will descend to the ancient town of Ollantaytambo (2792m), in this town lives many porters who work on the classic Inca trail. Here you will have free time to explore before to board the train to Aguas Calientes (2040m) in the afternoon. There we will spend the night in a hotel.

Day 5Visit to Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Back to Cusco

The hotel offers an early buffet breakfast, then we are going to make a line to board the bus and travel to Machu Picchu, it is about a 25-minutes drive.

Upon arrival, your guide offers you a two-hour walking tour of the site, named as one of the new 7 wonders of the world by the most important temples, places, and houses, the guide explains to you the history and function of each site. Then you can walk through the remains, perhaps find a lonely place to reflect on this impressive Inca conquest, or if you choose to climb the Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountains, you can start the trek as soon as your guided tour is over.

Your guide will arrange a time for you to return to Aguas Calientes by bus in time to make your train connection back to Poroy or Ollantaytambo. From here, you will travel by private van to your hotel in Cusco. Arrival times vary by traffic and connections but should be around 8:30 pm.

  • Trekking Equipment.During the trek we will transport 8 kg of your belongings for that will provide you a duffle bag, also a rain poncho, plus a backpack cover.
  • Campin EquipmentWe use the best possible equipment for mountain activities for your comfort and safety. Tents for up to 4 people, we use only for 2 people, as well as spacious dining tents.
  • Tour support team.We include staff that will make your trip unforgettable, such as the guide, cook, cook's assistant, porters and muleteers.

What is not included?

  • Single Roomif you require a single room has an extra cost.
  • Gratuities for the team.Tipping is a common tradition on any kind of tour, normally the group participants collect their tips to hand out to the muleteers, chefs and guides. Although we pay a good salary to all our team, always an extra is welcome for them.
  • Meals not mentioned.The dinner of the last day.
  • Trekking poles.

    Walking sticks with rubber tips are highly recommended to make easy your hilke. If you dont have, dont worry, we can rent them US$ 15.

  • Sleeping Bagfor this tour it is necessary to bring your -15°C sleeping bag, if you don't have them we can rent them for you US$ 20.
  • Travel insurance: It is not mandatory, but it is recommended that you purchase one to protect yourself financially from any lost excursions.

Pricing & Departure Dates

The Trek can leave on any day of the week, from March to January. we dont leave on february because rain a lot.

The departured are 100% guaranted, because we operate since two travelers.

Land Cost

Group Service Price: $ 700.00  US$ 650 per person.

Required Deposit:  To book, you need to make a pre payment of US$ 200.00 per person by PayPal.

Please after deposit send us to booking@doadventuresperu.com the transfer number. Only with this we will be able to confirm your pre payment and reservation of the trek – stonetrek.

Balance: it is US$ 650.00, the remaining balance can be paid online by Paypal in advance, or in Cusco at briefing with cash (recommend) .

Notice: If your are going to pay the balance with credit or debit car is a charges 5%. that have to be covered by the clients, this tax is jus for the remaining balance, or can be pay in Cusco with cash without tax before estar the tour.

Hotel

On this tour the last night will be spent in the town of Aguas Calientes before visiting Machu Picchu. For which we include a three star hotel with double, triple or triple rooms.
If you want to upgrade the quality of the hotel or prefer a single room, there will be an additional cost.

These Mountains can be visited after finishing the guided tour of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

  • Huayna Picchu Mountain: US $ 50 this is the famous stonetrek - mountain behind the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. it takes 50 minutes up, and another 40 to back, you can climb this mountain once finished the guided tour of Machu Picchu. The entry to this mountain has an extra cost, and need to be book in advance.
  • Machu Picchu Mountain: US $ 50This is the other mountain who surrounds the archaeological site of Machu Picchu, it is less popular than Huayna Picchu and takes 1.5 hour up.  Also requires an extra entry that cost .
